John Harvard Macpherson was a Philadelphia native and a student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
His oil landscapes are well known and were shown extensively in eastern exhibitions.
He married an artist and writer named Beatrice Edgerly.
Together they built studios in Pennsylvania and
Mystic, Connecticut. He helped organize the
Southern Arizona School of Art after opening a studio in Tucson, Arizona
in 1937 . During World War II he was a member of the Naval Hospital Corps
where he originated and directed the art school for
patients at the Naval Hospital at Pearl Harbor. Macpherson died in 1982 in
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
