This painting depicts a Mexican man
riding a burro through a busy village street in front of a Spanish church.
Born December 29, 1895 in Jasper Indiana Thomas Kempf first
intended on becoming a doctor but decided ultimately to devote his
professional life to art. He attended Syracuse University and served
in the first world war before marrying and settling in Chicago. He
worked as an illustrator in Chicago during the 20's and 30's as he
developed and exhibited is fine art work around Chicago. He
relocated with his family to Beecher, Illinios and painted scenes of
Mexican villages and spanish churches. Kempf died in 1988.
