Malaria represents an Italian family fleeing from the contagion of the
Roman campagna. Painted by E. Herbert, born at Grenoble, pupil of
David d' Angers and of Paul Dalaroche, won the Grand Prize of Rome in
1839, Commander of the legion of Honor in 1874, Director of the
French Academy in Rome in 1867, Member of the University of France in
1874."
